Recently, Zaporizhzhia State Medical University (ZSMU) invested nearly 4 million UAH in new equipment for the Interdepartmental Training Center. This modern technology will be used to enhance the educational experience for ZSMU students, ensuring they have access to the best resources available in their studies. The administration prioritizes high-quality education by continually updating its technology to support student learning.
The newly introduced virtual patient simulator is capable of emulating patients of various ages and genders, including men, women, and children. Kateyna Romanova, Head of the Interdepartmental Training Center and Assistant of the Department of Multimodal Diagnostics and Propedeutics, is responsible for operating the simulator. Along with her assistants, Artur Cherniavskyi and Iryna Skoba, they are working to integrate the simulator into the educational process.
This advanced virtual patient simulator is programmed with over fifty scenarios covering a wide range of therapeutic and pediatric profiles, allowing students to explore nearly every area of medicine. Each student is given 15 minutes to examine and communicate with a virtual patient, confirm the diagnosis, and administer appropriate treatment. At the end of each session, students receive a detailed assessment with results in percentage for each section. Mistakes can easily be tracked and corrected, promoting a continuous learning process.
Thanks to the virtual simulator, through trial and error students may became aware of weak spots in their education and fill those gaps during practice before graduation, so that they could be fully prepared to real cases. Even though patients in the simulator are virtual, the idea of losing a patient is still somewhat stressful for students, thus forcing them for further overall improvement.
