Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University

Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University is a modern, multi-profile higher education institution of the 4th level of accreditation with the right of autonomous management.

The history of Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University comes back to the Women Pedagogic Courses organized in Odessa in 1903.

In 1959 the Pharmaceutical Institute was transferred from Odessa to Zaporizhzhia and renamed in Zaporizhzhia Pharmaceutical Institute, and in 1968 — in Zaporizhzhia Medical Institute.

In 1994 the Institute was reorganized into Zaporizhzhia State Medical University of the 4th (the top) level of accreditation, which main task is to provide higher education services at Bachelor, Specialist and Master levels in medicine and pharmacy for Ukraine and foreign countries.

According to the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated October 28, 2022 No. 952-р "On Establishment of Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University" and the Order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine No. 2275 dated December 15, 2022, Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University was established. It is the legal successor of all property and non-property rights of the Zaporizhzhia State Medical University and Zaporizhzhia Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education.

In terms of its academic staff, the university ranks among the top three state medical educational institutions in Ukraine. As of January 1, 2025, the university employs 672 faculty members, including 122 Doctors of Science/Professors and 438 Associate Professors and Candidates of Science. Among the university's scholars are a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, 46 members of international academies of sciences and international scientific societies, seven Honored Scientists and Technicians of Ukraine, four laureates of the State Prize of Ukraine, five laureates of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine awards, a laureate of the President of Ukraine’s Award, two laureates of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Award, six Honored Doctors of Ukraine, five recipients of the Cabinet of Ministers scholarship for young scientists, two recipients of the President of Ukraine's scholarship for outstanding healthcare professionals, two Excellence in Education awardees, two Honored Coaches, and four Masters of Sport.
