Department of Dermatovenereology and Cosmetology with Postgraduate Course of Dermatovenereology and Aesthetic Medicine

Historical Reference

The Department was organized in 1966 on the basis of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Dermatological and Venereological Dispensary. At that time the Department studied mycotic and staphylococcal allergies, as a result of which the general principles of specific therapy of patients with athlete's foot and nodular vasculitis were formulated. In addition, the Department studied chronic dermatoses, features of their course and formation, connection with comorbid pathology.

In 1976-2003, the Department paid attention to the study of the pathogenesis of mycoses, pyoderma, vasculitis, occupational dermatoses in industrial enterprises, as well as methods of prevention and treatment of syphilis.

Since 2019, the Department is headed by Professor Halyna Makurina.

During the existence of the Department 5 doctoral and 27 candidate dissertations have been completed, more than 1,000 articles have been published, 10 monographs, 17 information letters for doctors, 3 collections of scientific works have been published, 21 author's certificates, 5 innovations of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine have been received.

Educational Disciplines

Dermatovenereology, Cosmetology (internship, Master's degree course, postgraduate study, clinical residency, thematic improvement courses for doctors, specialization in Dermatovenereology).

  • Domestic and foreign students (fourth and sixth years of study) of the Medical Faculties, majoring in "General Medcine" and "Pediatrics", and domestic fourth-year students, majoring in "Dentistry", study Dermatology, Venereology.
  • Third-year students of the Pharmaceutical Faculty (full-time and part-time), majoring in "Technology of Perfume-Cosmetic Preparations", study Manipulation Techniques.
  • Third-year students of the Pharmaceutical Faculty (full-time and part-time), majoring in "Technology of Perfume-Cosmetic Preparations", study Basics of Practical Cosmetology.
  • Fifth-year students of the Pharmaceutical Faculty (full-time and part-time), majoring in "Technology of Perfume-Cosmetic Preparations", study Hardware Cosmetology.
  • Third-year Bachelor students, majoring in "Laboratory Diagnostics", study Dermatology and Venereology.

 

Educational and Methodical Work

The training of students at the Department is based on the principles of providing methodological and informational organization of the educational process with elements of independent work, as well as on the introduction of new effective forms of knowledge and skills control. A bank of test tasks has been created for the KROK-2 licensing exams, which includes more than 3,000 tests.

According to the curriculum, working programs in all disciplines have been created. Lectures for domestic and foreign students are given exclusively with the use of multimedia technologies.

Methodical recommendations for practical classes in all disciplines for domestic and foreign students of medical faculties, interns, doctors, pharmacists and pharmacists-cosmetologists of FPO are issued.

 

Scientific Directions and Achievements

  • Functional State of Neuroendocrinoimmune System in Patients with Chronic Dermatoses.
  • Development of New Methods of Treatment of Dermatovenereological Diseases.
  • Study of Influence of Exogenous and Endogenous Factors on Process of Dermatoses Chronization.
  • Establishment of Pathogenetic Factors of Chronic Dermatoses.

During the 2019-2020 academic year, the Department published 3 textbooks: "Anatomy of Facial Part of Head", "Practical Skills in Dermatology and Venereology", "Manipulation Technique".

Employees of the Department pay special attention to work with students of Student Scientific Circle and scientific youth, in this regard they do reports at the All-Ukrainian scientific and practical conferences with international participation.

 

Cooperation with Other Institutions

Employees of the Department are current members of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV). The Department maintains close scientific relations with employees of departments in same directions of Zaporizhzhia Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, Kharkiv National Medical University, Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, Dnipro State Medical Academy, Institute of Dermatology and Venereology of the NAMS of Ukraine, Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine.

 

Advisory and Diagnostic Activities

Diagnostic and advisory work is performed in the Dermatological Center of the University Clinic MESC, Educational and Production Training Center for Cosmetology, during trips to districts and cities of Zaporizhzhia oblast. In terms of clinical work staff of the Department uses modern methods of diagnosis (dermatoscopy, ultrasound scanning of the skin) and treatment (phototherapy) using unique devices Foto Finder Bodystudio ATBM Master, Dub Cutis 33 MHz, Psoralite.
