Department of Pharmaceutical, Organic, and Bioorganic Chemistry

Historical Reference

The Department was founded in 1959.

Since September 2012, the Department is headed by Professor Liudmyla Kucherenko.

The Department trained 50 candidates and 15 doctors of sciences.

 

Educational Disciplines

  • Pharmaceutical Chemistry — studied by third- and fourth-year students majoring in "Pharmacy" (full-time and part-time).
  • Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Chemistry — third- and fourth-year students majoring in "Technology of Perfume-Cosmetic Preparations" (full-time and part-time).
  • Medicines Standardization — fifth-year students majoring in "Pharmacy" and "Technology of Perfume-Cosmetic Preparations" (full-time and part-time).
  • Perfumes and Cosmetics Standardization — fifth-year students majoring in "Technology of Perfume-Cosmetic Preparations" (full-time and part-time).
  • Good Practices in Pharmacy — fifth-year students majoring in "Pharmacy" (full-time and part-time).
  • Pharmaceutical Analysis and Medicines Storage (elective) — foreign fifth-year students majoring in "Pharmacy" (full-time).
  • Pharmaceutical Analysis (industrial practice) — fifth-year students majoring in "Pharmacy" (full-time and part-time).
  • Standardization, Quality Control and Certification of Medicines, Perfumes and Cosmetics (industrial practice) — fifth-year students majoring in "Technology of Perfume-Cosmetic Preparations" (full-time and part-time).
  • Ensuring Quality Control of Medicines in Ukraine (specialization) — fifth-year students majoring in "Pharmacy" and "Technology of Perfume-Cosmetic Preparations" (full-time and part-time).

Educational and Methodical Work

The training of students at the Department is based on the principles of providing methodological and informational organization of the educational process with elements of independent work, as well as on the introduction of new effective forms of knowledge and skills control.

A bank of test tasks has been created for KROK-2 licensing testing, which includes more than 1,600 tests.

In order to unify and standardize the approach to the criteria for students to acquire knowledge and skills, the Department has introduced a credit-module system of organization of the educational process.

Original lectures are given exclusively with the use of multimedia technologies.

Methodical recommendations and textbooks for practical classes in all disciplines for third-to-five-year students of the Pharmaceutical Faculty in the specialty "Pharmacy" and "Technology of Perfume-Cosmetic Preparations".

Online courses have been created in all planned elective disciplines, which students can master at the Department.

 

Scientific Directions and Achievements

  • Search for biologically active compounds among heterocyclic compounds.
  • Development of methods for analysis of drugs, new pharmaceutical substances, new original drugs.

The result of joint scientific developments of the Department and Pharmacetron NVO are new drugs Tiotriazolin, Tiocetam-forte, Thiodarone, Indotril, Cardiotril, Hypertril and Angiolin.

 

Cooperation with Other Institutions

The Department conducts comprehensive research together with medical and biological departments of our university, as well as with the Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University, Kharkiv Medicines Research Center, Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology of the NAMS of Ukraine, National University of Pharmacy (Kharkiv), Lviv Control Institute of Veterinary Drugs and Bioadditives, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Ukrainian State University of Chemical Technology, National Cancer Institute (USA, Bethesda), Neubrandenburg University (Neubrandenburg, Germany), Technische Universität Berlin (Berlin, Germany), Ukrorgsintez NVP, National Pirogov Memorial Medical University, Vinnytsia, and others.

In addition, the Pharmatron NVO (Zaporizhzhia), Halychpharm JSC (Lviv), Lekhim (Kharkiv), Red Star research plant (Kharkiv), Institute of Single Crystals SSI of the NAS of Ukraine (Kharkiv), DNCLZ research plant (Kharkov) participate in preparations development.

Advisory work is carried out with employees of practical pharmacy, control and analytical laboratories and cosmetic companies.
