Historical Reference

The Department was established on September 1, 2019 by the order of the Rector of ZSMU in order to improve the training of students and create an inseparable link with postgraduate education in "Surgery". The Department has an internship, Master's degree, postgraduate education (PhD) and clinical residency.

The Department is located on the basis of:

  • Surgical Departments of the City Accident and Emergency Hospital;
  • Surgical and Purulent-Septic Department of the City Hospital No. 2.

Educational and Methodical Work

Training of interns at the Department is based on the principles of the maximum possible practical work with the patient. In addition, in the educational process the Department uses multimedia technologies, elements of self-control, and implements new effective forms of knowledge and skills control.

A computer class (10 workplaces) has been opened at the Department to conduct final course tests and prepare interns for the KROK-3 license exam.

Practical classes combine the work of interns in wards, operating rooms, endoscopy rooms and ultrasound rooms.

The operating rooms are equipped with modern video equipment, which allows interns to watch the surgery from the conference room.

 

Scientific Directions and Achievements

Areas of scientific activities of the Department are:

  • surgical correction of diseases of the endocrine glands;
  • research, nature and features of etiology, pathogenesis, clinical course and results of surgical treatment of patients with urgent surgical diseases of the abdominal cavity and endocrine organs;
  • video invasive interventions in emergency and planned surgery;
  • development and implementation of a personalized approach in the choice of treatment of patients with urgent surgical pathology of malignant diseases (urgent onco-surgery);
  • development of protocols and algorithms for performing surgical interventions in elderly and senile patients;
  • blood-saving technologies in surgery, the use of ultrasound in anesthesia practice, ensuring airway patency with the help of epiglottis ducts, perioperative management of elderly and senile patients.

 

Cooperation with Other Institutions

The department maintains close ties with:

  • Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Center for Endocrine Surgery for Transplantation of Endocrine Organs and Tissues;
  • Komisarenko Institute of Endocrinology and Metabolism;
  • National Cancer Institute.

 

Advisory and Diagnostic Activities

Advisory work is carried out on the basis of Surgical Departments Nos. 1, 2 and 3 of the City Accident and Emergency Hospital, Surgical Departments of the City Hospital No. 2, in the Vizus Clinic, as well as in the Endocrinology Departments of the city and region, if required.
