Historical Reference

The Department was established in 1959 as the Department of Marxism-Leninism. In 1971, it was reorganized into the Department of Social Studies.

Since 2015, the Department is Professor Iryna Utyuzh.

The department carries out educational, methodical, scientific and educational work with students of all faculties of ZSMPhU.

  • Philosophy, studied by first-year medical and pharmaceutical students.
  • History of Ukraine, studied by first-year medical and pharmaceutical students.
  • Basics of Bioethics and Biosafety, studied by medical students.
  • History of Medicine, studied by medical students.

  • Theory of Cognition and Medicine;

Educational and Methodical Work

To effectively conduct the educational process, the lecturers of the Department have prepared appropriate educational and methodical literature. Every year, lecturers of the Department prepare and submit methodological literature for students and graduate students for approval by the Central Methodical Council of ZSMPhU.

The work of the Department, devoted to the implementation of new University projects, deserves special attention for:

  • PhD training programs;
  • school of a young lecturer;
  • online education.

In regard to the latter, the Department has developed, approved and placed on the EdX platform online courses in the disciplines Philosophy of Medicine, Deontology in Medicine, Ethical Issues of Medicine, Theory of Cognition and Medicine, Sociology and Medical Sociology, Philosophy, History of Ukraine, Logic and Formal Logic, Religious Studies, Ethics, Aesthetics, Local Lore, World Civilization, Basics of Economic Theory.
