Scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department of Foreign Languages at ZSMPhU, Professor Alla Kulichenko-Chuhina and Associate Professor Alla Oleksiienko, participated in online professional development courses titled “Fundamentals of Teaching Specialized Subjects in English” (“EMI Basics”), held at Sumy State Pedagogical University named after A. S. Makarenko.

The project was implemented by the Center for English Language Teaching Improvement of the Department of English Philology and Linguodidactics at Sumy State Pedagogical University, named after A. S. Makarenko, with the support of the Regional English Language Office of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine and the Public Organization “TESOL-Ukraine.”

During the training, the ZSMPhU  lecturers presented a fragment of a practical lesson in Latin and medical terminology for first-year international students whose language of instruction is English. In addition, Professor Alla Kulichenko-Chuhina, as part of a scientific team, prepared and delivered a lecture on teacher resilience and adaptability.

The interactive formats of the courses were particularly valuable: conversation clubs with American expert Nadia Avaida of the U.S. Department of State’s “Virtual Teacher” grant program, microteaching sessions, real case analyses, reflective sessions, and teamwork   allowed each participant to “try on” the role of an EMI teacher in a safe learning environment.
