ZSMPhU Telemedicine Project: Real, Practical Results

ZSMPhU Telemedicine Project: Real, Practical Results
As part of the project “Telemedicine Services in Rural Areas at the Primary Care Level,” leading specialists from ZSMPhU – Professor Natalia Mykhailovska, Head of the Department of General Practice–Family Medicine and Internal Medicine, and Department Assistant, PhD Serhiy Manuilov – visited remote communities in the Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv regions to provide supervision and support to healthcare professionals in the practical use of modern telemedicine equipment at the primary care level.

Over the course of a month, local doctors and paramedics had the opportunity to work independently with state-of-the-art equipment provided by the international humanitarian organization Medicos del Mundo (Doctors of the World, Spain). At feldsher-midwife stations, patients received prompt, comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic care, while video communication enabled immediate consultations with their family doctors. Telemedicine thus moved from theory to everyday practice. The results are remarkable: during the first four weeks, each station conducted an average of at least 60 diagnostic procedures, including electrocardiography, spirometry, vital signs monitoring, otoscopy, and dermatoscopy, demonstrating both strong demand and public trust.

During visits to the Kharkiv region, televised consultations were conducted with Professor Mykhailovska, who provided expert recommendations to patients with hypertension, arrhythmias, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, bronchial asthma, COPD, and other conditions. Thanks to standardized examination protocols and real-time video synchronization, patients received comprehensive evaluations and recommendations in line with current international medical standards. Special attention was also given to practical training on the effective use of telemedicine equipment.

The project received high praise and positive feedback from Medicos del Mundo leadership, local community heads, and heartfelt gratitude from doctors and paramedics for the continuous remote support and mentorship provided.

This initiative serves as a powerful example of how the expertise of ZSMPhU faculty, modern technology, and international collaboration are together transforming healthcare delivery, making it both accessible and modern even in the most remote areas of Ukraine.
