Learning and Work – the Creed of a Professional

Under the guidance of Associate Professor Yevhen Haidarzhi, from the Department of Hospital Surgery at ZSMPhU, students master essential surgical procedures, conduct clinical examinations of patients, control bleeding, manage pneumothorax, perform wound tamponade, and more. Their mentor often emphasizes that a good doctor has no vacations or breaks from learning. Throughout their professional lives, physicians must adopt the best global practices and skillfully apply them in their own work.

For Yevhen Ivanovych, these are not mere words. As the Head of the Transplantation and Nephrology Department at the Zaporizhzhia Regional Clinical Hospital, he has built his career through internships in Germany and participation—both in-person and online—in congresses and international meetings in Ukraine, Italy, Japan, Canada, and other countries.

Recently, Yevhen Haidarzhi completed a fellowship in the United States with multidisciplinary teams at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). There, he observed kidney and liver transplant surgeries, participated in organ procurement across various states—sometimes making several flights in a single night—and had the opportunity to compare approaches to managing complex patients, discuss donor logistics, and find solutions for transplant services under extraordinary conditions. The knowledge gained during this fellowship has already been successfully applied by the clinician during two kidney transplant procedures at the Zaporizhzhia Regional Clinical Hospital.

Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University has much to be proud of: all the physicians who pioneered and continue to develop transplantation in the region were trained at ZSMPhU. Here, new generations of specialists gain professional experience, while experienced practitioners further their qualifications and obtain second specializations—because learning truly lasts a lifetime.
