For students specializing in Pharmacy, Industrial Pharmacy, work-based practice is a crucial stage where theoretical knowledge transforms into practical skills, and classroom lectures come to life in real-world pharmacy or pharmaceutical production settings. Bulgarian pharmacy students who have chosen pharmacy as their calling eagerly anticipate this moment. When they first step into a pharmacy, pharmaceutical enterprise, laboratory, or research center, the world of science reveals itself to them from a new perspective.
Sterile environments, precise laboratory measurements, and modern equipment are not just background elements but essential parts of their learning process. Every milligram of a substance, every percentage of humidity or temperature, matters. After all, precision ensures quality, and quality guarantees patient safety.
During their work-based practice in pharmacy, students familiarize themselves with all stages of drug production: raw material control, the manufacturing process, pharmaceutical documentation, and pharmaceutical standards. They work alongside experienced technologists, analysts, and biochemists, mastering the best methods and approaches. However, one of the most valuable aspects of the practice is the opportunity to learn from seasoned pharmacists who pass on knowledge that cannot be found in any textbook.
"Work-based practice for Bulgarian pharmacy students is more than a training phase. It is a chance to feel like part of the vast pharmaceutical world and to understand the depth and significance of their profession. It shapes not only skills but also character—precision, attentiveness, and responsibility," says Professor Nataliia Tkachenko, Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Management and Economics and one of the practice supervisors at our university.
