Final Certification of Final-Year Students from the Republic of Bulgaria

Final Certification of Final-Year Students from the Republic of Bulgaria

Fifth-year students from the Republic of Bulgaria specializing in "Pharmacy, Industrial Pharmacy" at the university, studying under an individual study schedule, undergo final certification at the conclusion of their studies.

Associate Professor Taras Ivanenko, Dean of the International Faculty, noted the systematic preparation of the final-year students. All 63 students successfully completed their university course and were admitted to the final examinations. The certification consists of a three-component assessment: the KROK exam, the Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE), and the defense of the master's thesis.

The Certification Commission is chaired by Professor Liudmyla Kucherenko, Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Professors and Associate Professors from all pharmaceutical profile departments evaluate the students' knowledge. Professor Kucherenko emphasized the well-structured algorithm of the OSPE, which includes testing students' knowledge in pharmaceutical chemistry, medicine technology, and pharmacognosy.

A significant and innovative part of the certification is evaluating final-year students’ knowledge within the virtual pharmacy platform “Pharmacy Simulator.” Dr. Bohdan Burlaka, Associate Professor of the Department of Drug Technology, highlighted that ZSMPhU was the first medical university in Ukraine to implement this technology in both the educational process and knowledge assessment. For two consecutive years, the Pharmacy Simulator has been used to simulate clinical pharmacy, pharmacotherapy, and pharmaceutical organization and economics.

This platform, widely used in teaching students from various countries, is adapted to match national realities and regulations. Its advantages include enabling students to practice skills, take exams, and absorb material in an interactive and modern format. Thus, international students trained at the university feel more confident in real-world pharmacy settings after undergoing simulated training.

The Bulgarian final-year students are now prepared for the third and final stage of certification—the defense of their master’s theses. Professor Kucherenko confirmed that all theses were completed on time, reviewed by supervisors, and successfully passed all verification stages. The committee’s feedback underscores that the Bulgarian students are successfully completing their five-year program.
