Studies in Berehove: Practical Skills and Preparation for the Unified State Qualification Exam (USQE)
Education at the Berehove Student Campus of Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University (ZSMPhU) in Zakarpattia has expanded with a new area: a preparatory department is fully operational now and offers future students the opportunity to study the Ukrainian language and other essential subjects needed for admission to their chosen specialties. A group of students from Ecuador is already learning the Ukrainian alphabet and familiarizing themselves with the culture, traditions, and historical landmarks of Ukraine. As part of the program, they visited Uzhhorod and Mukachevo and explored the history of the Palanok Castle.
Dr. Olha Chernovol, a lecturer at the Department of Language and General Theoretical Training and Doctor of Philosophy, expressed her delight in witnessing the enthusiasm of the Ecuadorian students in learning the Ukrainian language.
Simultaneously, within the spacious classrooms of the campus’s historic building, students from India and Morocco are completing their autumn semester. They have worked with the relevant scenarios in the Body Interact virtual patient simulator and received practical training at the "Bertolon Linner Berehove Hospital." Their training focused on therapeutic, surgical, pediatric, and emergency medicine fields. Faculty members, including Nataliya Avramenko (Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine, Radiology, and Radiation Therapy), Kateryna Zymnia (Department of General Surgery and Postgraduate Surgical Education), Maryna Patsera (Department of Propaedeutics of Children’s Diseases), and Zoya Tanynets (Head of the Emergency Medical Assistance Department at the Berehove Hospital), have dedicated significant efforts to ensure every student acquires the full range of practical skills and competencies specified in the program.
Students are also actively preparing for the first stage of the USQE. Each week, they participate in testing in a computer lab using an educational module tailored for the KROK exams. Associate Professor Serhii Chuhin, from the Department of Human Anatomy, Operative Surgery, and Topographic Anatomy, and Deputy Dean of the International Faculty, supervises this process. In January, consulting sessions with specialized departments are scheduled to review and clarify situational tasks from the
Testing Center’s educational module that students find challenging.
This phase of the educational process highlights the consistent efforts of the ZSMPhU administration to prioritize the education and safety of its students. The university places particular attention on the well-being of its international student community. ZSMPhU provides not only high-quality education but also comfortable and safe living conditions for its international students. This approach will continue in alignment with the university’s educational programs and international standards.
