Foreign internship: professional development
The students of the Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University, Olga Babayeva and Veronika Tretiak, together with Veronika Kandybey, a postgraduate student of the Department of Internal Medicine # 1, underwent a clinical internship in the summer at the Nicolae Testemiţanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy (Universitatea de Stat de Medicină şi Farmacie "Nicolae Testemiţanu") in Chisinau ( Moldova). The exchange program was implemented within the cooperation agreement between the universities.
Here are the impressions of the students:
Veronika Tretiak said: "I am studying the specialty "of medicine" in the fifth year, the fields of interest are surgery and therapy. That is why, going on an internship, I had the goal of getting to know more deeply the experience of foreign colleagues of this profile. I was able to do this thanks to a perfectly organized internship. I spent an eventful month in Chisinau and underwent clinical training in "surgery" at the Republican Clinical Hospital named after Timofii Moshnyaga and in the field of "therapy" at the Institute of Cardiology.
A warm atmosphere was created for us, the Ukrainian interns and everyone was always ready to explain everything and share their experiences. I was present during the operations of patients in the colorectal, hepatobiliary, and abdominal departments. I deepened my knowledge in collecting and analyzing anamnesis, performing auscultation, and deciphering electrocardiograms. We discussed the diagnosis, prognosis of the course of the disease, and treatment with doctors. It was a good networking experience, so I am grateful to our university for the knowledge that constantly helped me during the program. I am also profoundly thankful to new Moldovan friends who shared their experiences. I am convinced that the knowledge and skills acquired during the internship abroad will be helpful in further study and practical work."
Olga Babayeva: "As a second-year student, I was interested in the experience in physical rehabilitation and sports medicine. Such an opportunity opened during practice at the University Center of Simulation Medicine. I acquired the skills of conducting physiotherapeutic procedures, receiving patients, and diagnosing musculoskeletal system diseases with great interest.
It was interesting to receive patients with the doctor and observe the course of rehabilitation treatment. Specialists of this profile are increasingly in demand not only in Ukraine, but their work is appreciated in various countries, and every day brought new knowledge and experience that helped me better understand the needs of patients. The moments when the patients shared their recovery stories and expressed gratitude for the help were especially memorable. It inspired me to continue improving my skills and strive to reach new peaks in the medical field."
By the end of the internship, a review was posted on the Facebook page of the Universitatea de Stat de Medicină şi Farmacie "Nicolae Testemiţanu" about the participation in the academic mobility program of Zaporizhzhia students. They shared how they had participated in all the activities of the clinical base teams of the departments of the university in the fields of therapy, cardiology, surgery, medical rehabilitation, and physical medicine for four weeks.
The students also said they were happy with the study conditions, availability of patients in clinics, openness, and friendly people with whom they communicate. The interns talked with the university's rector, Professor Emil Chebanu, and Evelina Gergelegiu, the head of the Department of External Relations and European Integration. They shared their impressions of their work experience at the university. According to Rector Emil Cebanu, this cooperation allows students and residents to learn from the experience of the Moldovian healthcare system and contribute to improving their professional competencies. The Students were also impressed by the level of medical equipment in the university clinics.
