Monitoring studies within the international project

Monitoring studies within the international project

Planned active actions within the implementation of the Ukrainian-Swiss project "Development of medical education" have begun. Zaporizhzhia Medical and Pharmaceutical University also participates in the Ukrainian-Swiss project "Development of medical education"

The Project conducts a number of monitoring studies among students, teachers, and interns of pilot and non-pilot institutions of higher medical and nursing education. Data collection for the research "Evaluation of the educational environment of institutions of higher medical education" among students of the third and sixth years, as well as "Measuring the perception of family medicine by students and teachers of institutions of higher medical education", organized among students of the third and sixth years, took place in December last year. Such data was also collected among the teachers of the departments where such disciplines as therapy, surgery, family medicine, social medicine, infectious diseases, and pediatrics are studied.

The project is conducting these studies for the third time. For the first time, they were conducted in nine institutions of medical and nursing education in 2019, the second time studies took place in seven higher education institutions in 2023. These studies are taking place for the first time at the Zaporizhzhia State Medical and Pharmaceutical University.

Students, teachers, and interns of Lviv National Medical University, Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University, Sumy State University, and Dnipro State Medical University have also taken part in the research at the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024. It is noteworthy that participation in the study is voluntary and confidential for all participants.

The purpose of the study on the evaluation of the educational environment is to identify gaps that can be filled by training teachers and administrators of higher education institutions, to implement projects that contribute to the development of the potential ability of higher medical and nursing educational institutions, to improve the learning atmosphere and educational experience of students.

The research tool "DREEM" (The Dundee Ready Education Environment Measure), which is used to evaluate the educational environment, developed by Scottish scientists, was translated by the Project and adapted to the peculiarities of medical education in Ukraine.

The results of measuring the understanding of family medicine by students and teachers of medical higher education institutions will help determine the steps that will contribute to increasing the prestige of family medicine in Ukraine.

Data collection is planned for the spring of this year as part of the study "Evaluation of the educational environment among medical interns".
